The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has launched a discussion into intelligent networking on the open innovation platform. The platform is targeted at both interested citizens and digital experts. The goal is to engage in dialogue and to find answers to a large number of questions linked to artificial intelligence (AI). What is AI capable of today? What potential does is offer? How could it be deployed in communities, companies, start-ups, and educational and research facilities?

Economic Affairs Minister Brigitte Zypries said: “One of the megatrends of the connected world of tomorrow is the development and deployment of artificial intelligence. I invite everyone dealing with AI – whether it is as an expert, researcher or entrepreneur – to tell us about their ideas, needs, and experience. The open innovation platform is open for everyone who is working on the future of smartly connected thinking and networked activities.”

The open innovation platform’s discussion on AI will start with a 3-week information period. During these three weeks, there will be daily updates, background reporting and expert interviews, offering users a good overview of the current state of the discussion: What is AI capable of doing today – and what is set to remain science fiction forever? What applications and solutions are already available – and what trends can we foresee? The information period will be followed by an 8-week participation period, where all interested parties are invited to submit contributions to the discussion: What solutions and applications are already being used – and what has been the experience with using these? What opportunities does AI present – and what risks or obstacles are associated with the technology? What ideas and solutions are already being talked about, but have not yet been put into practice?

The open innovation platform is part of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy’s Smart Networks Initiative, which seeks to systematically and extensively use the potential of digital solutions for education, energy, health, transport, and in public administration.
