The Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region, which includes the cities of Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg, is home to a large number of leading international chemical companies, healthcare providers and IT firms. In addition, many different SMEs, hidden champions and innovative start-ups developing cutting-edge technology have selected the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region as their base.
With the right kind of cooperation, this mix of organisations and firms spanning a wide range of different disciplines have great potential to generate new innovation. In order to harness this potential, the Ludwigshafen/Mannheim digital chemistry/digital health hub will focus on promoting digital chemistry and digital health innovations, as well as new start-ups in these fields. The hub seeks to partner stakeholders and institutions, and to create a regional ecosystem that will help chemical companies, healthcare providers and IT firms develop new business models, products and services and bring these to the market more quickly. With the Ludwigshafen technology centre at its heart, the hub will also make it more attractive for digital talent to move to the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.
Rhine-Neckar has made a name for itself as a region where innovations and start-ups flourish. This is largely based on the existence of effective networks that allows stakeholders to transfer knowledge, use synergies and resources and build partnerships. There are many different projects and initiatives – that often exist separate from one another – where start-ups can cooperate with businesses, universities, research institutes and municipalities. The region’s extensive network consists of start-up communities, municipal and university-based start-up centres, and regional, municipal and private venture capital investors.
